MOMENTS OF STILLNESS

This series of anthotypes aims to capture a shared sense of calm and repose present in all the subjects depicted. The process of alcohol-based anthotype printing—an act in itself of patience, focus, and methodical care—enhances the feeling of serenity conveyed through the unique texture and coloration of the final images.
Regardless of the individual subject—whether a concentrated figure in the act of creation, the quiet presence of a chair, the interplay of light and shadow in the space, or leaves gently bending—the goal was to compose a cohesive sense of inner tranquility. The series reflects an unhurried rhythm, emphasizing stillness, silence, and the subtle beauty of the moment.

The anthotype process itself embodies patience and precision. I extracted pigments from turmeric, applied them carefully to 250gsm watercolor paper in a darkened space, and exposed the pieces to sunlight for two days. This method highlights the interaction between light and pigment, creating subtle textures and natural variations in warm color. Through this process, the series conveys a rhythm of stillness and attentive observation, further reinforcing the sense of calm central to the work.
